Uranium Explorer Alligator Energy Makes Successful ASX Debut

URANIUM hopeful Alligator Energy has made a successful debut on the Australian Securities Exchange, handing major shareholder Macquarie Group a quick return.

After raising $15 million at 20c a share from its initial public offering, lead-managed by Taylor Collison, the Queensland minnow yesterday opened at 23c, handing investors an initial 15 per cent gain.

Macquarie holds 11.3 per cent of the company, which has a market value of about $34m. Chief executive Robert Sowerby holds 4.5 per cent, while Greg Duncan, described in the prospectus as one of Alligator's key managers, holds 3 per cent.

Alligator holds 283sqm of tenements it bought from Cameco in the Alligator River Uranium Province in the Northern Territory and has applied for a further 415sqm of land.

The IPO funds will be used on drilling and associated studies of the tenements.
