Critical Commodities List For 2011 Investors

The European Commission has launched a major raw materials initiative, identifying 14 materials critical to the future of the EU.

The EC published the 24-page document, Tackling the Challenges in Commodity Markets and Raw Materials, at a press conference in Brussels.

It said its list of critical raw materials was selected because of the risks of supply shortages and their impact on the economy. A particular emphasis was put on materials where supply is dominated by a few countries.

The materials on the list, dominated by 

Metals and Rare Earths

Antimony, Beryllium, Cobalt, 

Fluorspar, Gallium, Germanium, 

Graphite, Indium, Magnesium, 

Niobium, Metals in the Platinum group, 

all the Rare Earth Minerals

Tantalum and Tungsten.
